Allah the merciful
Merciful Allah, when will the wind of your judgement
rise from the desert? Who will clot with sand
the claws of the slaughterers? Which gust of wind
will choke the blasphemy in your name down their throats?
Who will shift the skyhigh dunes of this corruption?
From the top of minarets the hypocrisy of your ministers
blots out the sun, spills over the country and trickles to the
sea.
They don't beg the dawn for the light of the faith in man,
in woman his equal, for the grace of justice, your harmony
In the fire of sunset they don't lament for innocent blood shed.
They goad brothers into violating sisters and Algeria's
daughters, in suburbs and villages mother and child fall
to their throatcut slaughter. Merciful Allah, whose face is
utterly unknown, don't let your name be smeared with blood
and overthrown by these unfaithful perjurers, dust for their feet.
Your ministers preach their own power in mosques,
raise the blade, call for the kalashnikov, for punishment,
massacre, sexual vengeance against women liberation.
Allah, the unspeakable, they dress you up in their own sex,
decking you, the undescribable, indecently in a horror mask!
Merciful Allah, don't leave these dead eye-opened,
these women throat-slashed, your best daughters
mouth-gagged, dismay, to the unwilling compulsory veil,
rape, tearing, smothering. Your truth is not afraid of democracy,
denouncement of slaughter, in streets, on rooftops.
Heed, Allah, the cry of Algeria's daughters!
